Man....life got way ahead of me. Still making art via vintage booth display ...that would be "Abstract Antiques" in the Main Street Shops in Westfield.
I'm trying to stop buying things for my booth so that I can empty my studio of cool stuff stock and get back to painting.....still, I've got my booth rockin MY certain time period pretty well now.....probably 1966 is my target year....give or take 5 years either way.
Working up a mushroom display, a wood vase display, a mod orange kitchen/diningroom display, and dang if I don't have that vintage baby crib full of kitcshy crochet blankets again.....

So I sold 2 paintings this week that I had in my booth....the hadn't even made it up on the wall yet when a lady snatched them up for her shop as I was working up a new display....See the paintings from my "Stained Glass" series at "Gardeners Market and the Back Room"...... I was pleased!

Gol Darn it! I misspelled kitsch! A very important word for me....why do I like kitsch? The definition in my little computerside dictionary sucks....."something of tawdry design or content created to appeal to undiscriminating taste". Hmmp!

Tawdry?? "showy and cheap; gawdy; tasteless"

Well....showy and cheap is good! Gaudy?? "showy in a tasteless way" hmmm, well....so, perhaps we've touched the realm of lowbrow then, and that is where the appeal lies. Anyway.....I like rare kitsch....hard to find, underappreciated....bad assed kitsch!

So I've been looking at Etsy trying to see trends....I'll admit to being in my 50's....but I'm cool! Heh.....So fingerless gloves, feathers in your hair, and little holders of things made of felt appear to be in. I'll pass on the feathers. Gotta go!

I love creating *the display* and scouring the bottom feeder locations for cool weird stuff for my booth. I have a large area on the second floor, and will be opening a second smaller booth on the first floor to feature clothes and baby items, plus holiday decor.
I have very large collections of vintage aprons, hankies, hammered aluminum, and green 50's planters. I LOVE Gwen Frostic and always try to keep a nice selection of her woodblock print cards and books in stock. I'll be dragging a collection of vinyl albums in soon....some albums are purely for their kitch effect with the cover, others are cool all the way around.
I try to keep my mannequin dressed as snazzy as possible....with Halloween coming up there are all sorts of cool things she could wear hanging on the rack.
Come to Main Street Shops, eat awesome barbque and time travel to groovy days of yore.
